Avocados are a popular fruit known for their creamy and nutty taste. They are versatile in the kitchen and can be used in a variety of dishes, from guacamole to smoothies. However, one of the biggest challenges with avocados is knowing when they are ripe and how to store them properly to prevent them from going bad.

To ripen avocados, it's best to place them in a brown paper bag with an apple or banana. The ethylene gas produced by the apple or banana will help speed up the ripening process.

Leave the bag at room temperature for 1-3 days until the avocado is ripe. You can tell if an avocado is ripe by gently pressing on the skin - it should yield slightly but not feel too mushy.

Once your avocados are ripe, you can store them in the refrigerator to help them last longer. To store a cut avocado, sprinkle it with lemon or lime juice to prevent browning, and then cover it tightly with plastic wrap or an airtight container. Alternatively, you can also freeze mashed avocado for later use in smoothies or dips.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure your avocados are ripe and ready to use, and you can also prevent them from going bad before you have a chance to enjoy them.
